About
Matt Waterhouse
Matt Waterhouse began his career in record shops in the 1980s before moving into the record industry, securing his first label role assisting Wendy K at Parlophone Records in London. In the early 1990s, he took on his first major leadership position running the dance department at XL Recordings, where he played a key role in shaping the label's dance output.
His success quickly led to him being headhunted to run the dance department at MCA / Universal Records, further cementing his reputation as a trusted tastemaker and industry operator. In the late 1990s, Matt founded his own club promotions company, Hyper-Active, working closely with clubs, DJs, and labels across the UK and beyond.
He later expanded into remix management, focussing heavily on remix A&R, signing tracks and remixes and placing them with all major labels as MWR, before moving into dance radio plugging, specialising in mix shows as 1st Stop. Building on this, Matt began offering third-party playlisting services, working with both major and independent labels to support releases across radio and digital platforms.
